Problem with a more powerful gun you may just blow holes through them. Power is nothing if you carn't transmit it to the victim.

Yes they are tough. I got one the other day, yes daytime ! they are all over the place now that the crops are in, and it took a couple of well placed shots to send him on his way. I'm using up an old tin of webley .22 pellets that came with the gun. They are round heads but don't seem to be very good at taking down the rats. So I will be getting a pellet upgrade shortly.

It is a very old BSF. I don't know the model , maybe a 65. It is in .22 cal and very likely needs a retuning. I now live in Lincolnshire, and the gun was my father in laws, so has been around for awhile.

can you post a picture of it? I guesss you mean a BSA. not sure of a 65! if it's as old as your making it out to be it could require basic servicing to bring it on song again, such as a spring and washer.

Just gave it a better look. With the help of google, it turns out to be something called a BSF which stands for Bayerishe Sportswaffen Fabriken. Really rolls off the tongue huh ? As for the model it seems likely to be a 60 or 70, they were the ones mostly brought in to the UK back then -Although I have yet to see a model number on it. It is about 43" long with a barrel lenght of 18". All in all a very basic looking gun.

As for a picture I'll try, although as I'm just setting up my home office the required bits and pieces for that process are eluding me for the moment.

Just googled it myself and found this. A model 65 (if it is) is rare. The washer is leather on BSF guns, they need lots of attention to be the best. But this article say's they are well up to 12ft/lbs.
Sorry unable to attach link - but searched under "BSF airguns" and opened the first hit.

Ok I'll google "BSF airgun" myself and see what pops up. I can't remember now how I found it the first time. Leather washers ? This thing must have been made a long time ago....

I've just checked again and I used "bsf 65 airguns". Your gun must be well low of grunt and will need a full strip and tune. It should be easy enough. I would suggest finding and ordering a new washer and spring as these are the minium it'll need. Both the leather piston washer & breech washer will need a soaking in special HMP oil to absorb it so as it swells. Well within the scope of DIY. Any gunsmith will be able to sort it of course at extra expense, but still cheaper than buying another gun. It all depends how you feel about the gun if you want to spend time on it. Man made pistion washers/seals started appearing in the 70's. Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.
