Default Sussex Teenager Dies in Shotgun Accident

A teenager from East Sussex has died after he was accidentally shot in the head by a friend while out shooting.

Student Alex Bailey, 18, from Kingston, was hit while hunting pigeons with two friends on farmland in Southease.

His parents, Andrew and Sandra, said shooting was one of his big interests, and the trio were all experienced huntsmen with current shotgun licences.

Sussex Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious. An inquest is due to be held at a future date.

The group had been aiming at birds from a hide when Mr Bailey was shot.

Incidents like these are always tragic. My sympathies go out to the families involved.
Not wishing to detract from the gravity & tragedy of this incident and, given that accidents don't just happen, they are caused. It does beg the question, As those involved were 'experienced huntsmen'. How on earth did this happen?
The answer will probably come out at the inquest. However, this sad post should serve to remind us all to take extra care when handling guns of any description.
