Re: 1 gun only...springer or PCP?
PCP cos it's convenient for me. Too old to pump up by hand but have a dive bottle and I dont like a springer because I dont want to keep having to pull the barrel to load it. My arms wont take it any more.

After much serious contemplation of one's navel, one has decided upon the selection of a springer. Factors: initial outlay, less likely to go wrong (and easier to repair when it does), no extras such as bottle, hoses, guages, pumps. Still useable if bottle suddenly needs filling and one can't get to the bottle filling chappies.

All very true, Sir Ed But look at what you forfeit. Consistant accuracy. Virtually whisper quiet shooting. Generally lighter in weight. No recoil to worry about and almost no moving parts.

My Tx 200 SR is as accurate as many a pcp. It has a custom silencer ,so is very quiet. It is actually lighter than ones pcp. It has imperceptible recoil. much the same as ones Park. Picketh the bones out of that my good Green Knight.
Sir Ed.

Re: 1 gun only...springer or PCP?
Springer gets the nod for me. I need something that can bounce around in the back of the Jeep. I need something that can withstand the dust of the desert country that I most often shoot in. I need something light that isn't a burden to carry. I need something dynamic handling like my 20-bore Parker-Hale side-by-side shotgun. I need something that will shot well over broad temperature extremes -from freezing temps during the gray light of the early dawn to 80F by noon. I need something that isn't affected by changes in altitude that might range as much as 2,000 feet during a single morning hunt, or as much as 4,000 during a weekend shoot. I also need something self contained, as I might be more than 125 miles from the nearest diver supply specialist and don't want to carry a pump along when backpacking into a roadless wilderness. That kind of puts PCP's down for the count.
Do PCP's have advanatges over springers? They undoubtedly do. Will I ever actually own one? Perhaps, but unless the nature of my shooting drastically changes, I'll most likely be packing a springer in the field.

Re: 1 gun only...springer or PCP?
Pcps are great, but if I could only have one rifle it would have to be a springer.
They are heavier, and less forgiving I know, but they generally look better, have more character, are more straight forward to service and don't go wrong as often.
When I go down to my club it's nearly always a springer I pick up from my rifle cabinet to take with me. They are harder to shoot consistently well, but more fun in every way.
