Post 10 x 42 sniper type scopes

The 10 x 42 sniper type scopes have become very popular in the last year for HFT and hunting.

There are a few different ones on the market today with the most popular being the Edgar brothers , Deben DMP and Nikko all in 10 x 42.

I own both the Edgar bro (on my HFT set up) and the Deben (on my Hunting set up)

Both the EB and Deben ones have side PA where the nikko one has it on the rear of the scope.

All 3 scopes have a mildot ret. The deben has the finest ret out of the 3

These scopes all come in a matt black finish and a 30mm tube for superb light gathering.

I love the 2 scopes I have and would recommend them to anyone wanting a decent HFT/Hunting scope.

I don't have a nikko scope to compair with my EB & Deben but I am sure someone uses a nikko 10 x 42 sniper scope.

All 3 scopes retail around the £350 mark.

Which scopes do you use and why, what are your likes and dislikes about the scope you use.
Please reply as this will help new comers to the sport choose the right scope.

I also have a AGS 3 - 9 x 40 mini and a Tasco world class plus I will post about soon, but it's over to you lot lets hear about your scopes.

i use a simmons 3-9x50 8-point, cant fault it for the money, lense and light quality is good and the build structure is solid, it zooms smoothly and with the focus set up is still clear at higher mag.

Reason i bought the scope is that i only had a ton on me at the time was in need and had had another 8-point model and liked it + anything smaller than a 50 on a tx looks dwarfed by the gun, if i were to get another scope for my tx it would be a wtc as have used one and cant rate them enough.

Agree with the WTC mate had a few in different sizes and all have been top scopes.

They come into there own when the light is low.

i've got 3 snipers two 10x42 one's a tasco and a nikko then one thats just sold at 16x42 nikko, bostin scopes for the money, all the other scope's i hav i dont really use because i prefer to shoot the snipers it makes placement of pellet all that much more precise, try them you wont go back to anything else i dont take my hunting rigs out that much these days so tend to itch for the snipers when doing UKAHFT

do liike the idea of the sniper scopes but being fixed on 10 mag i think would be too high for hunting, would like a mil dot though, i always guestimate with range when holdover is going to be needed.

I only hunt live quarry so a large mag scope is not the way forward in my opinion, I have 2 scopes both Debden. 4-14 x50 and 5-20 x50. I do like the 50mm recticule as it gathers so much more light than the more popular 40mm, the 50mm scopes are not too expensive in comparison. excellent for dawm and dusk sorties

good clear optics and value for money I can't fault either of these scopes both cost under £200 when I bought them last year, possibly cost a little less now

Another scope I have is an AGS 3 - 9 x 40 Mini which is tiny at only 9 inches long and weighing 12 oz.

You can buy the mini with or without flipup lense covers, the mini has a nice fine mildot ret with half decent glass.
I find the best setting is around 6mag which gives you the best clearest picture.
The mini is more suited to small light weight guns.
Mine is mounted on my Falcon FN12 lighthunter and it looks the part.

You cannot fit double clamp mounts to the mini as there is not enough room so a decent set of single clamp mounts is a must.
I use the hilver delux on mine.
For the price tag of around £70 I am well happy with it.

Pic taken from the BAR website.

I prefer to shoot from a bipod wherever possible, so the 10x42 style scopes were very appealing to me..

Snagged an EB model a while back and was completely blown away by the quality of the thing - having only used sub-£150 scopes before I felt it was time for an upgrade.

The higher mag does take some getting used to, but I've successfully shot at all ranges between 10 and 50 yards with it no problem

I have one barn where the shots are near vertical, light very poor and range short - I must admit that the unit struggles there, as the side PA won't focus so close and the light doesn't help

So I've got a .25 cal falcon with a red dot for those situations now

I've taken far more bunnies with my 410/10x42/bipod combo than any of my other gear, and the higher mag is helping me learn to control my "wobble" on standers etc so I'm getting better as I practice more - still love the bipod tho

All in all - fantastic scopes - try one!
