Re: Hunting and pest control
DB4
XS78
B3-F
Can anyone tell me which of these guns is the best for hunting? I’d be looking to take down pigeons and maybe rabbits. I’d like to know in terms of power, range and usability – for example the XS78 is co2 and the other two are normal springers with underlevers. How often do you need to replace co2 tanks and are they as powerful as springs? Which of these is the best? Please just help me. I can’t decide. Email me, anyone who can help, at i_am_sam82@yahoo.co.uk. I will then worship you as my saviour.

Re: Hunting and pest control
None of them really.... save a few extra pounds and put them towards a BSA lightning as an entry level springer.
Also pop over to the WELCOME section and give us a proper introduction if you'd be so kind

Re: Hunting and pest control
They cost about 200 quid. I wanna shoot now, now, now. I can't wait that long. Is there nothing decent in the 100 pound range? I ain't some sort of professional afficionado - as long as it'll kill critters I'm happy.

Are you kill crazy.. Sorry M8 but it strikes me as you're some sort of person thats got the wrong end of the stick about airgun hunting. Its not a matter of kill anything that moves You need to know why you're shooting it and mainly killing it humanely. You have the wrong attitude to legal airgun hunting and it seems no respect for the sport in itself. You can't just go out and buy a cheap 'n' nasty gun and start blatting away at things. Best thing you can do is save your money and pop along to an airgun club and see what its all about first.

Re: Hunting and pest control
Woah. No I'm not kill crazy - I like to hunt things that I'm gonna eat. In fact it bugs me when they kill birds on my farm and then just throw the bodies away. I used to take them home and eat them, since we always get pigeons from a game supplier anyway. I certainly would not shoot anything that moves - I'm not even gonna shoot rats or squirrels, I really don't see the point in that. It's the same as course fishing - I just don't get why you'd wanna whip a fish out of closed in tract of water, wave it at a camera and then chuck it back. Now that causes animals distress.
All I want is a gun that will kill an animal - obviously humanely - and which is not too pricey or for the hardened pro. I want it as a tool. I'm not interested in the "sport" whatsoever. I just like the taste of game and think that if I'm willing to eat it, I should be willing to catch it too. So if you could just recommend me some guns and not get all preachy that'd be great.
Seriously, does anyone know where's a good place to get second hand guns - that Lightning thingy does look ideal but the price new is just too dear.
Help!

Fair comment and it seems maybe an apology is in order from me,
I apologise.
But your last post did indicate that way. You may think that it was preachy but maybe you just don't understand some of the plant pots that these forums get, we, as frontline airgun forum need to show responsibility towards our sport, you still need to have respect for the quarry you are about to take a shot at.
A good place to start looking for a good 2nd hand gun would be these forums, where the people do take their sport and their rifles seriously. Most of the people on these forums treat their rifles better than their wives, so a 2nd hand rifle will be as good as new in most cases.

Re: Hunting and pest control
Awesome, cheers mate. I'll keep an eye out here then. That BSA Lightning doe slook the ideal thing fro what I've managed to read about it online. It says it's ideal for hunting - I haven't really seen that on any of the others. Having said that, I have read that the B3-F and DB4 are good for small quarrey. Take a look at...
http://www.airguns-online.co.uk/air_rifles.htm
Is it just salesman's patter or could I kill things with these? What do you reckon?
