Exclamation What is the best rifle for FT ?

So people this is probably a can of worms!

What are you opinions?

Regulated or unreglated ?

What manfacturer?

What model?

What Calibre?

What Ammo?

& YOUR REASONS WHY, otherwise your opinion isn't much help.

Doesnt make much of a difference if you learn your rifle's power curve.

What manfacturer?
Air Arms.

What model?
S400

What Calibre?
.177 - easier to hit things with at distance.

What Ammo?
Daystate FT/JSB/Air Arms Field/Webley Mosquito

& YOUR REASONS WHY
Because if you're just starting out in the sport (HFT) there isnt a better rifle around for the money. Its as accurate as any mega bucks gun out there and is probably the most used rifle in HFT outside of a Daystate Mk3.

sorry to upset someone but HFT and FT are not quite the same shooting discipline

Distances are different Ft max 55yards

FT you can adjust your scope

The choice of pellet in .177 is what ever your barrel suits with grouping

Regulated will give a flatter power curve and longer string with a sudden drop off, than a gradual decrease in fps with un-regulated

Model what ever suits you with balance, the majority of FT guns are a lot heavier for balance as most of there shots are taken sat down or standing

AA400 is a good gun for HFT but maybe a little light for FT

My advice would be to go to a dedicated FT CLUB and ask look and try some of the guns

i would say the anshutz, fwb, walther, and styer are all very good, the styer is the best out of the box and the easiest to shoot well, i am getting an e2 at the mo but dont have any experience with them so cant comment on them, either the walther or the anshutz is the best but it depends what model you go for in the range, i like the 8002 anshutz

The original poll asks "what the best gun was for HFT/FT" (have a look and see) hence my reply. I mistakenly answered the poll and not the post. Your sarcasm does you credit. I'm not upset.

FT/HFT/vermin/target/whatever ... AA S400 with Daystate .452,s (scope as required for discipline)

Why? ... Reasons as stated above.

Plus it's the mutts nuts

The Air Arms S400 is indeed an ideal gun to start FT with, it is as accurate as any supergun and as consistent if the power curve is learned. But the super guns have a much better trigger. So start with the 400 and graduate to a better gun if the need arises and your pocket is deep enough.

Started with a 400 and a custom shop, good to get going with but is never going to make the grade as you get more into it.

Now have a P70, very good, very accurate and great trigger, gun will out shoot me every time. Have shot the Walther as well which is very nice but they will not do a left hander so no good for me.

For the classic best FT gun ever it would have to be the Protarget, even today they pop up and put in an unbelievable score at comps.

To the cruf of it IMO;

Regulated or unreglated ?
Regulated everytime if you are serious about FT

What manfacturer?
FWB (would say Walther but they are handist, no left handed versions)

What model?
P70

What Calibre?
.177 No point playing FT with anything else.

What Ammo?
JSB - Good, well priced and consistent

& YOUR REASONS WHY
Works pretty much out the box. Can be adjusted to suit almost any shape of shooter. Doesn't go wrong (hexed myself now). Have not had to spend a fortune on "bits" to make it work or shoot straight.
Downside is the weight.

Ultimately whatever suits you best and you can get on with is the answer. Whoever recommended going to a club and trying lots of guns got it spot on.

Starting out in FT though, I'd still go for a Protarget and spend any available money on a better scope, still convinced the scope makes more difference then the gun.

Cheers

L
