Not THAT far wrong! The .17 HMR & .22 WMR are very close with the .22 just a tad bit more powerful by say 30 ft-lbs but has double the knock down ability and much better wind 'bucking' ability and the ammo used to be very reasonable indeed. Not as trendy as the HMR but never the less a very capable round indeed and one which has always been over looked in favor of either a .222rem or HMR these days. Slightly more loopy trajectory than the HMR (30 grain bullet) but the .22H will out shoot both rounds and a .223 is just class or a .243" running 60 grain bullets is pure class!!! .

75ft/lb at muzzle, thats a good air FAC rifle and @25% better than the HMR, it's enough! About on par at 100yds after this the HMR has it alround.
You carn't compare rimmi with CF, they're different leagues. 10x the power.
Like comparing a 12ft/lb air against 22lr. Of course they are better, more expensive etc.....

Yes, more power but to be honest at 100 yds shooting fox size game there is only a marginal benefit.
The main benefits are the .22wmr's ability to buck the wind better than a HMR, slightly more loopy trajectory but in saying that I can remember shooting three rabbits one after another at 150 yds (with a 80 yd zero).
I'm not anti-rim fire but for some reason the plod have relaxed some what over small bore centre fire calibres over the last three odd years. Seems that people are just following "the crowd" and not looking at other options available. I like the HMR because it would fit in to one type of spring / summer shooting that I do but a .222 would do the job better. Years back I can remember sitting on high ground in a golf course picking off bunnies at 250 yds with my .222 then I swapped for a .243"
I picked up a cracking little .308 last weekend, decided to go to the range this morning. The rifle produced 1" groups @ 100yds with Privi ammo, well happy. Time for me to home roll some ammo and get a deer!!

I dont disagree about the benifits of CF, just that for vermin its like cracking nuts with a hammer. It avoids Ryans question about what to do with your kills, there'll be nowt to pick up
