Thanks guys.

After a few sleeps on the subject, I have decided to take the XL back for now and wait a while. It's a cracking gun, I did find it a bit loud but that's probably because it's new and I'm sure it would settle down. The rush of blood is over now and I'm seeing things for what they are and as I have th 97, I'm in no real rush to buy a new gun so I have time to get the decision right. If I'm honest, the real reason I considered a springer over a PCP was the cost, for the cost of a PCP alone, without the filling kit etc, I could go shooting with a new gun, so I'm going to hang on for a bit until I know what I'm going to do.

For now though, I'm going to spend some money on the 97, I'm going to get a Tasco 3-9x40 scope, with illuminated reticle, which is half price at the moment at the gunshop as my current Simmons scope sometimes fogs up internally when in use. I'm also considering a V-Mach kit for the 97 as although it is a cracking gun, if it can be made even better, then I'll give it a try.

So, after all that, the jury is out for me for now at least on what my new gun will be but before too long, I should have some idea of what I want to do.

I dont want to look like a party pooper fella but if that Tasco scope has a Xmas tree style illuminated ret then it's a fake, come to think of it original Tasco's are pretty poop nowadays.
If i was you i'd save a little longer for a better piece of glass.
Please don't take this as a dig,i just don't want you to buy a dud.

Thanks for the help mate. I had bought the scope yesterday and didn't see this until now.

I'm pretty sure it's a genuine Tasco scope, it was priced at £169 but I got it for £85. I hadn't realised it was part of the deal if I bought the XL but he still honoured the price as I think he can see a good customer in me. The reticle is a cross hair type, with the centre illuminated, I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I'm hoping to zero it later on today.

I would agree about the quality though, it's not what it used to be. I used to shoot 15 years or so ago with a Tasco 3-9x45 Moonlighter and that was much better quality than this scope, I am a little disapointed with the quality, especially as there seems to be some kind of debris on the reticule lens, it's almost like there are tiny fibres on it.

I'm still making my mind up on a gun though, but I think the V-Mach upgrade to my 97K is an almost cert. I really want a PCP but I'm struggling to justify to myself the cost of a bottle etc, which almost doubles the price of the Ultra but we'll see.

Just an update, the 97 now has a V-Mach kit fitted and I've taken the Tasco scope back as it was utter poo. I've now got a Hawke 3-12x50 and it's much better.

Still no decision on a new gun as yet though, I'm happy with the 97 for now so I'm in no rush though I will be getting another gun one day soon.

I may get myself a Crosman 1077 for a bit of fun though as they have a deal on it at the gunshop and will give cheap, recoil free shooting.
