Default Ghillie suit

After leaving the forces a while back I foolishly sold my ghillie suit and am now looking for one.....

the ones on ebay look quite like what I used to have but am unsure of the quality....

any recommendations on where to get a decent one??

also how many of you go as far as to use them hunting for pigeons/rabbits???

IMO, it is a bit over kill to use a Ghillie Suit for hunting.

Normal camoflauge (not DPM camo) like Mossy Oak, Realtree (And its many varieties) trousers and jacket will be more than adequate.
You can also by a cheap'ish' camoflauge mesh suit, of which i have, this gives you mesh trousers, a jacket, gloves, and a headnet/veil. Note that this is thin cotton mesh, and is not waterproof. You will also need to wear warm clothes underneath for the cold months. A headviel is important as it sheilds your eyes and bright face from your quarry's L.O.S and doesnt startle them, think of your face with no headveil on out hunting, as a big white blob on a black background.

A mesh suit like the one described will set you back £30-£40, whilst goretex trouers will set you back anything from £50 upwards alone.

www.tonyscamo.co.uk is a good place to start.
You will find the mentioned trousers and mesh suit on this page;

was just wondering how many people actually used them.....but not many judging by the amount of replies.....

i find that the most effective way of not being seen by rabbits & things is about breaking up outline and colour ....
i have had many a rabbit wearing drab clothing (not camo) and standing very close to a tree.. i believe because they cant make me out from the tree..... mind you i think i would be lost without my face-viel!!!!!

I imagine a lot of the force camo training would involve adapting to the environment you're in, I wear ex army camo but mainly when I shoot from a hide. As been said the most important factor is to hide your face, a scrim or even as i've done with my boonie stitched a piece of realtree screen all the way round. Find what works for where you shoot.

all the shoots i have had/been on over the last couple of years have all been a bit jumpy about the full camo thing (they think you want to be rambo) which is why i choose plain but drab clothing..
does anyone else have that on thier shoots? i have even had the lady who owned a bit of land i used to shoot on say to me "ooh i dont like that face veil, it make you lok like a terrorist", she was ok about it once i had explained why it was needed!

I usually wear DPM or flecktarn(german cammo) but i had a good deall on some mossy oak and real tree stuff a month or two back so i wear that now, but it will be back to the flecktarn when the winter comes rolling back in coz its warm and cheap enough to throw if you rip it or you get in that state when your missus refuses to put it in the mashing machine

If you're about 5'5" and 6st wringing wet then the Army Surplus shop in Ebbw Vale was selling German Flecktarn tank suits for about £12....you need to be a dwarf or a child to get in em though
