Default Air Cartridge guns & the Law

just thought I'd include this to clarify any lack of knowledge regarding Brocock type weapons:

Under the anti-social behaviour act 2003, new laws were introduced which effectivly outlawed the maufacture & sale of air cartridge powered guns and the owners of these type of guns had until 30th April 2004 to either hand them into the police or apply for an F.A.C ( Fire Arms Certificate).

After this date, all non-licensed air cartridge type guns are classed as prohibited Firearms under section 5 of the 1968 Firearms Act and its a serious offence to own one.

Confusingly, the Government in their wisdon, changed the name by which these airguns are known, to self contained gas cartridge (SCGC) airguns- but in practice, most SCGC guns were know as "Brococks", the company that mainly sold them.

The new legislation does not extend to any other form of airgun, including Co2-powered guns. Where Co2 GAS capsules are used to gas up a pistol or rifle ansd airgunners can buy and use such air wepons without any form of F.A.C in line with exsisting airgun laws.

The government gave very little warning of this change in the law relating to Brococks- airgunners had just over 3 months in which to either apply for an FAC or surrender their gun(s) to the police ( for no compensation). This means airgunners may be un-aware since 1st May 2004 they are in breach of the new law.

If youre found in possession of an air cartridge powered airgun, under the Criminal Justice Act 2003 you are liable to a 5 year minimum prison sentence.

5 - Years MINIMUM.......

SO, BE AWARE OF THE LEGISLATION PARTICULARLY IF YOU BUY GUNS - VIA: AIRGUN FORUM - SALE BOARDS..............

If in doubt ask

Be safe

Les

I posted this link over on oRGie's thread, but just in case Brocock owners have not spotted it, I'd recommend you both read it and bookmark it :-http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/crime/g...s/index.html#1

The current Government thinks nothing whatsoever about instigating knee-jerk legislation with minimum publicity. For example, it is now illegal to make, sell, advertise for sale, hire or give away truncheons & batons in the UK, as they were added to the Offensive Weapons list in June, with only one month's notice and no compensation whatsoever to manufacturers and retailers. As always, ignorance of the Law is NOT a defence.

I see that the only one of the alleged terrorists charged this morning to get bail, has been charged with illegal possession of a Brocock pistol.
