  2. Fri 5th Lamping For Foxes

    by on 7th Mar 2010 at 14:47
Well the weather has been dry lately and the moon was covered so me and Rhys(Spitfire) decided that after our recent shooting hibernation we'd pop off out with the lamp for charlie.

We'd managed to get out early last Tuesday morning for some bunnies and while we were out around the farm we spotted the recently killed half eaten carcass of a new born lamb so that was it, a decision was made to get out and see if we could nab the fox or foxes.

Well as it was, luck was on ...

  4. True Oil finished at Last!

    by on 21st Feb 2010 at 08:59
Got home this morning and thought I'd put up a few photos of the stock so far. The true oil is now finished. I hope you can see just how much grain has come out. The inside of the thumb hole was completely black when I got her from hand oils and usage. I am not too sure on the true oil finish. Its seriously reflective and is glass like. Looks like its been vanished rather than oiled. I have the conditioner and also wax to go on yet so that should tone it down but keep the grain. I have to wait 48-72 ...

  5. Run into a snag! Any advice?

    by on 14th Feb 2010 at 21:30
Well, got it sanded back and am pretty happy with it. So, it was all dusty so I dampened a sponger and gave it a wipe over. Grain looked much better. Now I've gone back to it and most has dried out. BUT!!

Every single area has shown up not just bits I've missed but also some areas that I knew would be difficult as listed earlier. I am NOT gonna get this stock back to its initial glory

I expected that especially in the thumb hole and inner of the hand grip. BUT not ...
