In theory, they should come out just after as the sun goes down and then again as the sun is coming up.
I usually go around six and stay out till around 10. I have stayed out till one/two on occassions and I have to say that some nights it's good and some it's bad.
I think it's got more to do with conditions than anything else. If the weather is mild-ish you can be sure to see the rabbits. If its freezing cold with a frost on the ground then it will probably slow.
