Unhappy Failures

FAILURES

The Least Successful Weather Report: Jeddah, January 1979 "We regret we are unable to give you the weather. We rely on weather reports from the airport, which is closed because of the weather. Whether we are able to give you the weather tomorrow will depend on the weather".

The Worst Homing Pigeon: This historic bird was released from Pembrokeshire, U.K in 1953 and was expected to reach its’ base that evening. It was returned by post, dead, in a cardboard box eleven years later, from Brazil.

The Least Successful Lion: In 1970 a lion escaped from a circus in Italy. Typically, it found a small boy and started to chase him. Less typically, the small boy's mother turned on the lion and badly mauled it. The animal suffered severe head and skin wounds and received treatment for shock.

The Least Successful Mystery Tour: In 1971 a couple from Margate travelled to Wales for their vacation - in Wales they joined a British Rail "Mystery Tour" That took them to Margate!

The Least Successful Choral Contest: At a choral competition in Wales only one choir entered and placed second (It was punished by the jury for arriving forty minutes late and not awarded first prize).

The Most Unsuccessful Nine Gun Salute: Rounding Cape Horn, the yacht ADVENTURE, entered by the Royal Navy for the 1977 round the world race was given a nine gun salute by HMS Endurance, a 3600 ton ice breaker, the sixth shot hit the 55 foot yacht and wrecked it's headsail!
