The recessed screws sound like action screws fella and I wouldn't fix to those as they could work the action screws loose through usage and affect accuracy.
With mine I carefully drilled the stock to fit QD studs - one in the butt of the stock and one in the forend and attached the pod directly to the QD stud
It is much more sturdy that way and you can position the QD stud for better balance of your rifle on the pod then too
