I was out this morning on my local shoot the land owner spoke to me about a pair of nest raiding maggies she wanted dealt with, now this shoot is a large old manor house with 2.5 acres of paddocks with lots of trees and small copses of very good cover, so i staked out one of the areas i knew the maggies might frequent and laid out a tree rat i killed recently i split open its guts and placed it nr the base of large tree and set up a hide in a smal copse at 30, yds from the bait i also set up some crow/ magpie decoys, got comfortable in the hide , after about 40 mins i heard the chacking call of a nearby maggie, then the flash of black and white as it flew into the tree with the tree rat close by it , now this tree is a big dead elm tree which a lot of birds use as a sitty tree i,ve lost count of the amount of woodies i have had here, the maggie jumped around the branches a bit then landed nr the bait i let it settle and then settled my mk-2 rapid .177 crosshairs on its head and let the jsb exact do its job, a nice whack resulted one dead maggie i left where it fell and with in the next 1.5 hrs got 2 more maggies and a couple of crows so a good mornings shoot .
